When deciding where to treat your mum for her birthday, it can be a tough decision. You want elegant, classy and also something quite safe; you want to make sure that they like it.
Patara, a Thai restaurant in London, helped us to achieve all this and made for a lovely evening. A contemporary Thai restaurant in central London, Patara has its own aim of executing elegant and authentic cuisine. With a stylish decor and relaxed vibe the hosts welcomed us in whilst we waited for our table.
Once seated and given the menus we went about our usual routine in a Thai restaurant. This is to look for the favourites such as Tom Yum Soup (as above), a duck dish and a curry. The duck dish we wanted was not there so we then chose to have the Sharing Menu, which with a soup was £43 a head. This Patara Banquet featured six starters and four main dishes to share.
So what did we eat and what stood out?
Regular readers will know about my standard Thai test, this is the need for a spicy prawn Tom Yum soup. The goal is for a soup which has the heat but great flavour too. The heat must not overpower and must enhance the dish. Thankfully for my tastebuds and mouth the heat was good and spices tingled my tongue and my mouth enjoyed it loads.
Thai Test = Patara Passed.
The rest of the starters and main courses were vibrant and tasty. The colours and portion sizes made sure that between us, we were all eager to eat and had enough to eat. Herbs and spices are a key part of Thai cooking. The heat for the dishes was not overpowering and instead complimented the flavours.
Patara is a good Thai restaurant with food that fits the bill in terms of quality and taste. For value I am not sure if I would rush back here, as it was quite pricey. The name Patara, translates as gracious Lady, which I would say is a good analogy for my experience. It was a nice evening but you are not 100% sure if you would see that gracious lady again and again. You Get me?
More importantly, my Mum enjoyed it for her birthday. She was the boss and therefore Patara did good.
