Pedestrians feel like they own the road. Cyclists feel like they aren't looked after so they do what they want. Drivers have the vehicle, protection and speed so they will do as they please. All feel as if the roads were made for them. So who is the King of the Road?
The roads are not safe anymore. Too many people, too many bikes and a whole load of cars. With no one following any of the rules it makes it a dangerous environment. I've created this site to say what I like and today I am going to moan about people on the streets.
My issue here is that red lights are there for everyone. It is good that more and more people are cycling, but they need to follow the rules and STOP when they see a red light. maybe it is a London thing and everyone is in a rush to get somewhere. BUT please STOP at the RED LIGHT. I am becoming increasingly frustrated seeing cyclists cross at a junction when the lights are red or even at a zebra crossing. Where has this arrogance come from? Can any cyclist answer why? You will cause accidents this way and there have been too many injuries for it to continue. Alongside this, if you cycle, wear a helmet. Just as a driver will wear a seatbelt, a cyclist should have to wear a helmet. Did you know that this is not a law and also it is not a criminal offence to drink and ride? Will the Mayor of London do anything to help such issues. One solution is supposedly 20 miles per hour zones. This does not work. When the bikes are going the same speed as cars then it will cause more problems. Cars at 20mph is too slow.
As well as cyclists, pedestrians are not guilt free either. The other week when running back from work I ran into another guy. That is just plain stupid from the both of us. Londoners more so are always in a rush and unfortunately are looking out for number one only. So what do we do? Cycle lanes? Running Lanes? 20mph zones?
My suggestion would be for specific lanes for different users. This will make things a lot clearer and safer for everyone. It may lead to more congestion for cars, but if it is safer then fine. The main thing for everyone is to use some common sense and not be so selfish. Because at the moment there is no King, just a lot of Jokers on the streets.
