Another burger review from Sherwin - this time on his holiday in Malta. He is starting to have more burgers than me.
So for my brother (mainly for myself) I tried a burger place on holiday in Malta. The burger craze is truly worldwide, or at the very least European. Every magazine and website had recommended Badass Burger as a place to try in St Julians, Malta. I had to find it. Oh there it is, a 1 minute walk from my hotel, how convenient.
I flew to Malta with my wife to celebrate our one year anniversary. Time flies but and what an amazing year with an amazing wife.
We went to Badass Burger on our last day and for lunch we walked in and were taken straight to the top. The restaurant and seating area we were taken to was on the roof of the building so it felt like we were outdoors but it was covered up. A bar was in the corner too.

You do what it says, when at gbk you get a burger. The menu did used to be a lot smaller, but times are a changing.
The options are quite plentiful and I think help with those who aren't the biggest burger fans (fools).
The burger had the good flavours of old. It was like seeing a friend after a few months or years. Straight away you click again and all the memories come flooding back. The flame grilled taste was most prominent from the patty and the bacon had that extra charred effect. This coupled with the patty felt like I had never been away.
Cooked medium rare as I asked and with nice cheese did make gbk a safe and good option when in need for a burger. I feel like since the start of this franchise as it has been over taken by many other establishments. Byron is the main franchise which can compare and I think the quality here puts it above gbk. I wouldn't go looking for gbk but am happy if it finds me.
The sides of onion rings and skinny Rosemary fries were decent. The crispyness on the onion rings were a bit much and tasted of an over sugary panko- crumbs. The skinny fries were covered with rosemary which was great but they were too skinny and you almost needed a spoon or fork to pick them up. The generous amount of Rosemary was welcomed however as a few other places do say they have Rosemary but you barley taste it. I won't mention any names, honest.
Gourmet Burger Kitchen has come back, not with a vengeance but as before. If it ain't broke, you don't need to fix it. Or just go to the better places instead.
How to eat a burger the correct way.
Step One: you read about it
Step Two: you find it and order it
Step Three: you devour in anyway possible savouring every bite
I ordered the Le Royale with Cheese and Laura went for the Le Bourguigon and both came with 8hr beef short rib patty. This is one of the meatiest burgers I have ever had. Picture a chunky beef short rin stripped off all its meat and moulded into a nice rounded patty for. Lightly seasoned as it doesnt need much extra and you are onto a winner.
The rest of the accompaniments were great with it. These included truffled Dijon mayo, or as they called it Dijonnaise. The French and their words.A hickory beef jus and smoked tomatoes gave the burger the nice smokiness and grandeur flavour you would expect from something French. The St Maure de Touraine (French cheese) helped to glue everything together and added extra moistness to a dry short rib patty.
